Dr. Alay S. Banker, MD is a vitreoretinal surgeon based in Ahmedabad, India, and Director of Banker’s Retina Clinic & Laser Centre. He serves as Chief of Retina Services and Head of the ROP Department at the Health and Care Foundation and has led large-scale ROP initiatives, including directing the Gujarat ROP Telemedicine Project. Trained in vitreoretinal surgery and uveitis at UC San Diego and Sankara Nethralaya, he is internationally recognized for clinical leadership, research, and education in retinal disease, uveitis, and ROP.

Dr. Deepa Banker is a neonatologist and Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) expert in Ahmedabad, serving as a Visiting Neonatologist at SVPIMER and former Professor & Head of Pediatrics at Smt. NHL Municipal Medical College / SVPIMER. She is a Master Trainer for KMC Training (TOT), faculty for advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and an active member of KMC Foundation India, with award-winning contributions spanning KMC counseling and breastfeeding advocacy. Her clinical and academic interests include neonatal resuscitation, KMC, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), neonatal nutrition, pain management, preterm massage, and breastfeeding support.

Dr. Sadik Taju Sherief is a pediatric ophthalmologist and national leader in childhood eye care in Ethiopia. Over the past seven years, he has led retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) screening and pediatric eye programs at major government referral hospitals, helping build local clinical capacity and sustainable services. He currently is the Chair at Menelik Hospital, where he continues to train the next generation of Ophthalmologists while expanding access to sight-saving care for children.

Arthur led the deployment of the first diabetic retinopathy and sickle cell retinopathy screening network in West Africa (Africa Eye Imaging Center - Kumasi, Ghana) in 2023 and co-launched the first TeleROP screening center in SubSaharan Africa in 2024. Arthur attended Stanford University for undergrad (computer science), medical school, and ophthalmology residency. He also previously worked at Google as a Software Engineer for 6 years and a Clinical Researcher for 2 years. He is attending Harvard for his Vitreoretinal Surgical Fellowship.
Co-Founder, Chief Operating Officer
Sarthak co-launched the first TeleROP screening center in SubSaharan Africa in 2024. He has traveled to Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, and Zimbabwe to conduct needs assessments to better understand the challenges of ROP care. His personal connection to the disease comes from his uncle, who is bilaterally blind from ROP. Sarthak is a current CIGH Global Health Research Fellow and 4th year Medical Student at Stanford.

Dr. Nimesh A. Patel is a pediatric vitreoretinal surgeon at Harvard Medical School and Director of Pediatric Retina at Boston Children’s Hospital, with a major clinical and research focus on retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). His work centers on improving ROP detection, treatment, and long-term outcomes, and he has helped lead clinical research aimed at refining and modernizing ROP screening approaches. He has published influential studies supporting evidence-based modifications to screening guidelines to better identify at-risk infants while reducing unnecessary examinations.
